TWO NEW SUPPORT LOCATIONS

We are pleased to inform you of two new parent led support groups.  One meets in Sioux Falls and the other in Brookings.  Attached is information about each.  We are thankful for the Grant from the Department of Social Services so that we can continue to provide a support network for South Dakota’s Adoptive Families.  Please let us know if you are able to assist with the Family Fun Night or any other programs.

OTHER REMINDERS

Please remember to check the PAC website for the list of resources available from the library.  Also listed is the books which are for sale.  If you know of other great resources that you would like to see added to the library, please let us know.

Parents of Adopted Children (PAC)--Brookings

Do you have curiosity about what special issues you may be facing with your child?

Would you like more easily available resources about adoption topics?

Would you like some guidance in handling transracial issues for your child/children?

Would you like to know more about or just take the time to make a

Lifebook for your child/children?

Do you feel confident in handling open adoptions, and maybe open adoptions with multiple adopted children in your family?

Would you simply just like a place to go to discuss these issues and more?

And, are you noticing signs of attachment deficits in your adopted child/children?

Would you like to ask questions of adult adoptees, of other adoptive parents?

If any of these questions intrigue you, we would so like to welcome you to our Parent of Adopted Children group in Brookings.  We are a parent-run education and support group.  What we have in common is that we all parent adopted children.  Come and gain new insights and strategies, and be part of our open and friendly discussions.  If you’re running late, feel free to bring your dinner along!

We meet the first Thursday of each month at Steve and Shelly Bayer’s home in Brookings at 533 Summit Pass from 6:30—8:30 p.m.

Our 2008 dates are:

Thursday, February 7th

Thursday, March 6th

Thursday, April 3rd

Thursday, May1st

Finally, if you’re thinking of joining us to check it out, we’d appreciate your input via e-mail survey.  Please RSVP via e-mail to nagyfam@brookings.net to receive your e-mail survey so that we can best prepare for all of you.  Contact Jamie Nagy at 605-692-5333 or Shelly Bayer at 605-692-2600 with any questions.

Parenting Attachment-Challenged Children-Sioux Falls

Does your child have a hard time giving and receiving love?

Does your child display indiscriminative affection towards strangers?

Does your child have destructive tendencies?

Is your child adopted or in the foster care system?

Did your child suffer medical trauma at birth or a young age?
Does your child lie or steal?
Do none of the “normal” ways to discipline work with your child?

If you can answer several of these questions “yes”, then maybe your child has attachment issues.   We are a parent-run education and support group.  What we  have in common is that we all parent children with varying degrees of attachment disorder.  We meet to learn and to encourage each other as we strive to help our children.  Come and gain new insights and strategies, and be part of our open and friendly discussion.  If you’re running late, feel free to bring your dinner along!  Child care is not provided.  Please call Roxie at 605-965-3192 with any questions.
